she wanted to live, according to an official government review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Critics warn that the case exposes how Canada\u2019s so-called \u201cMedical Assistance in Dying\u201d (MAiD) system is rapidly devolving into a machinery of coercion and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The woman, identified only as \u201cMrs. B\u201d, was euthanized by the Canadian government within hours of objecting to \u201cassisted suicide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was reportedly euthanized by the government\u2019s socialized healthcare system despite repeatedly stating that she refused euthanasia and wanted hospice care instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her devastated family is now demanding answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>She Said \u201cNo,\u201d and They Killed Her Anyway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs. B, a woman in her 80s, suffered complications following coronary artery bypass surgery and experienced a sharp decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She chose palliative care and was discharged home, where her elderly husband became her primary caregiver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As her condition worsened, her husband struggled with what officials later described as \u201ccaregiver burnout.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Ontario MAiD Death Review Committee&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/macdonaldlaurier.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/MDRC-Report-2024.4_Same-Day-Next-Day-Provisions_Final.pdf\">report<\/a>, Mrs. B initially expressed interest in MAiD but then changed her mind and rejected the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She told the MAiD assessor she wanted to withdraw her request, citing \u201cpersonal and religious values and beliefs,\u201d and said she instead wanted inpatient hospice care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That should have ended the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hospice Denied, Death Fast-Tracked<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next morning, Mrs. B was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doctors found she was medically stable, but noted her husband was overwhelmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her palliative care doctor applied for urgent inpatient hospice placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same day, another MAiD assessment was requested after doctors said her husband indicated that euthanasia would relieve the burden<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A second assessor declared her eligible, despite her earlier objection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The original assessor objected strongly, warning of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The \u201cdrastic change\u201d in her end-of-life wishes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lack of urgency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The risk of coercion tied to caregiver burnout<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That assessor asked to see Mrs. B again the following day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The request was rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials claimed the situation required \u201curgent provision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>She Begged to Be Spared<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A third assessor was brought in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p to the report, she begged not to receive the lethal injection, insisting she wanted to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was killed anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Review Committee Sounded the Alarm<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the Ontario MAiD Death Review Committee said the compressed timeline prevented a proper evaluation of Mrs B\u2019s situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They raised serious concerns about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The present, raising further concerns that she felt pressured to comply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Focus Should Have Been Care, Not Death<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p member, delivered a blistering assessment of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe focus should have been on ensuring adequate palliative care and support for Mrs. B and her spouse,\u201d she&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/macdonaldlaurier.ca\/rushing-to-death-in-canadas-maid-regime-ramona-coelho-for-inside-policy\/\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She criticized the MAiD provider for expediting death despite unresolved objections and ignoring alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHospice and palliative care teams should have been urgently re-engaged,\u201d Coelho wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInstead, the process was rushed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A System Expanding, and Breaking<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada legalized assisted dying in 2016 for terminally ill adults whose deaths were reasonably foreseeable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since then, the regime has expanded dramatically, now covering chronic illness, disability, poverty, depression, and soon mental illness alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dementia cases remain especially controversial due to questions of consent and capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same report highlighted additional cases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An elderly woman was approved for MAiD after one meeting, based on a family member\u2019s account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A woman whose consent was interpreted through hand squeezes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A man with early Alzheimer\u2019s euthanized during a brief moment of supposed lucidity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Chilling Warning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is no longer a theoretical debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An elderly woman asked to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She requested hospice and asked to withdraw consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the system killed her darker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The slippery slope of the nation\u2019s euthanasia program is a state-sanctioned conveyor belt to death, where care is denied, safeguards collapse, and objections are brushed aside in the name of efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For critics, Mrs. B\u2019s death is not an anomaly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
